Scotland's most versatile oil available on larger scale

Myrica gale, a deciduous shrub native to Scotland otherwise known as bog myrtle or sweet gale, has long been hailed as having antiseptic, insect repellent and therapeutic properties.

Essentially Scottish Botanicals aims to manage the large scale production and refinement of essential oil from Myrica gale through a newly opened steam distillation unit.
Research has proved that Myrica gale extract contains a mix of compounds that is particularly effective at treating viral and bacterial skin conditions and Essentially Scottish Botanicals believes that the essential oil derived from Myrica gale has the potential to rival and surpass Australia’s tea tree oil.
The Inverness-based facility is also being used to investigate other indigenous Scottish plant species for the efficacy of their extracts.
